The City’s Code Enforcement Division enforces the codes and ordinances that cover signage, overgrowth, junk, disabled, abandoned or improperly parked vehicles and substandard housing. The Division processes approximately 3,200 cases per year.

A Special Magistrate Hearing is held once a month to address difficult cases. The Special Magistrate determines if violations exist, issues orders requiring correction by a certain date and imposes fines.

The Code Enforcement Division works closely with citizens and believes City residents deserve to live in neighborhoods where their quality of life issues are met and monitored.

Special Magistrate:

The City of Winter Haven Code Enforcement Special Magistrate Hearings are held the third Thursday of each month at 9:00 a.m., at City Hall, 451 Third Street NW.

On September 28, 2009, the City of Winter Haven adopted Ordinance O-09-40 regarding Abandoned Properties.  This ordinance requires that when a lender records a Notice of Default (pre-foreclosure action) they must also inspect the property for occupancy.  If the property is vacant, the property must be registered with the City and regular maintenance is required.

For additional information on this ordinance, please contact our office.
