The Winter Haven Public Library
provides a wide variety of services to its patrons, including books,
videos, DVD’s, compact disc, downloadable audio books, books by
mail, audio cassettes, books on CD, large print books, copy and
laminating machines, IRS forms, voter registration forms, microfilm
readers, on-line public access catalogs, computers for research,
Internet access, word processing, wireless Internet access,
private study rooms and a self-service checkout.
In addition, the Winter Haven Public
Library is a proud member of the Polk County Library Cooperative.
Patrons may use their card at any of the public libraries in Polk
County. Any materials borrowed in Polk County may be returned to any member library.
The Winter Haven Public Library is
pleased to join with the 13 other public libraries and two special
libraries to offer you an automated card catalog. Our Internet
Public Access Catalog (IPAC) system provides access to nearly all of
the (more than 600,000) items in our joint collections. You can access
the catalog on the library’s website at
whpl.mywinterhaven.com.
Look for the links to the card catalog.
At present you can search in many different ways. You can
also type in your complete library barcode number in the patron
information section and have access to your record. From there, you
can renew books, review fines and see which books you have on hold. |

The Friends of the Library
was founded in 1976 and is a non-profit support group that sponsors many worthwhile
events throughout the year. Its sole purpose is to enhance the quality of the
Library’s services and collections through its memberships and fundraising
activities. The monies earned in these activities are used to purchase extra
books and equipment not available with City funds.
The Friends have a used
bookstore located in the library gallery. If you want to donate some
gently used books or volunteer in the bookstore, stop by during bookstore hours, Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. The Friends can be reached at (863)

The Children’s Department is pleased to offer many services to our youngest patrons. We have a section for pre-school children, school aged children and a young adult department for students ages 13 to 17.
Programs
Florida Library Youth Program is a State Library of Florida sponsored program. This program is conducted throughout the summer for children of all ages. Activities include puppet shows, performers, storytellers and arts & crafts.
Reading
Excellence in Reading is a very successful program at the library. Children read specific books and are tested on a computer. There are a set number of books to read and prizes awarded along the way.
Pre-School Story Hour
Pre-School Story Hour is held on Tuesday and Wednesday at 10 a.m. Story hour consists of reading stories, puppet shows and sing-a-longs. Call for a current schedule.
