The Winter Haven Fire Department is a public safety organization that provides emergency and non-emergency services for the City of Winter Haven and some adjoining areas. Our services are provided through three internal divisions which are the Administrative, Emergency Management and Fire Prevention, Investigations and Public Education Divisions.

 
     
 
  Our Services:
 

 

The specific services the department provides are:

 

  Operations:  
 

* Fire suppression operations
* Emergency Medical Technician Services (EMT)
*Advance Life Support (Engine 3 Cypress Gardens area; E2 Lucerne     Park coming soon)
* Response to terrorist threats or incidents
* Emergency extrication and rescue
* High angle rope rescue
* Shallow water (lakes, canals, etc.) rescue
* Aircraft crash rescue
* Chemical firefighting capability
* Standby at the scene of potential hazards of life threatening
   situations
* Hazardous gas detection operations in residences and other
   locations
* Animal rescue (when reasonable and appropriate)
* Removal of smoke and other noxious fumes or substances from
   buildings and homes
* Evaluate requests for burn permits
* Assist any individual when presented with a reasonable and valid
   request that is within our capacity

  Crisis Intervention Assistance:  
     
 

The Winter Haven Firemen’s Association: A corporation that has been recognized by the State of Florida since July 5, 1966. This organization offers assistance to the citizens who do not have the financial means or adequate support to obtain shelter when their dwelling has been rendered uninhabitable after a fire or other crisis incident. The association will provide the following:

 
     
 

1. Hotel accommodations up to two nights
2. Essential needs (i.e., clothing and personal items)
3. Assistance in purchasing food

 
     
 

Provide citizens with available property protection materials for potentially dangerous weather conditions (i.e., sand & sand bags)

 
     

  Fire Prevention, Investigations and Public Education:  
 

* Subdivision infrastructure design assistance for developers and
   contractors
* Site development and construction plans review assistance for
   contractors and developers
* Emergency evacuation and disaster preparedness planning
   assistance and review for compliance
* Private fire protection systems plans review and testing for
   compliance with local and state regulations
* No fee fire code compliance inspections
* No fee re-licensure inspections for nursing care, adult living facilities,
   hospitals and other agencies requiring annual renewals
* Fire cause and origin investigation and determination
* Life safety consultation for all business, assembly, industrial and
   multi-family residential occupancies
* Daycare, pre-school and public school inspections (public and
   private)
* Seasonal family and home fire and life safety tips via newspaper and
   radio media releases
* Public service radio seasonal safety messages (holidays, swimming
   safety, etc.)
* Presentations for local civic clubs and organizations
* Specialized fire hazard awareness and training for local industries
* Assistance to single family homeowners on matters relating to home
   fire safety issues (fireplace maintenance, smoke detector location
   and installations and questions relating to developing EDITH (Exit Drill
   in the Home) plans
* Other services as requested

 
     
  Public Education:  
     
 

* Fire Prevention and Fire Safety Education to schools, day cares,
   businesses, organizations, events, etc.
* Kids Safety Puppet Shows
* Fire extinguisher training to citizens and businesses within the City
* McGruff Safe House and McGruff Truck Programs
* Juvenile Fire Setter Program
