Classes and Programs

Computer Classes

Computer classes are provided in the Library’s Science, Education, Exploration & Design Lab (SEEDLab), a state-of-the-art training center equipped with twelve Mac/Windows computers. A variety of classes are offered each month ranging from beginner to intermediate skill levels as well as recreational to business topics.

Class schedules are posted the fourth Monday of every month. Receive a copy of the schedule in your email.

Be sure to check for classes held throughout other libraries in Polk County.

Amplified Telephone Distribution

Second Monday of every month, 1:30 – 4:30 p.m.
People with certified hearing loss will have the opportunity to receive a free amplified telephone for home use. To learn more about qualifying, call Central Florida Speech and Hearing at (863) 686- 3189.

Book Discussion Group

This new group meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 5:30 p.m. The Book Discussion Group has in-depth conversations, exploring personal life experiences related to the theme of the book, emphasizing positive health and emotional mindfulness. Book topics vary and are selected by the group and the same book may be discussed over several meetings.

Career Source, Mobile One Stop Bus

Friends of the Library Book Review Series

Third Wednesday from October – February, 12:00 p.m.
Lecture series and discussion from speakers within our community. Food is welcome. A copy of the book is raffled at the end of the program.

Second Wednesday of every month, 10:00 a.m.
Read the selected title and then meet with the Club to discuss it. Titles are chosen by Club members and include a variety of fiction & non-fiction titles.

Technology Help Desk

Thursdays, 5-6:30 p.m.
Having a problem figuring out your e-reader, laptop, cell phone or other electronic device? Stop by the Library and receive FREE technology assistance from the City of Winter Haven IT Department.

Tuesday Book Club

Third Tuesday of every month, 4:00 p.m.
Read the selected title and then meet with the Club to discuss it. Titles are chosen by Club members and include a variety of fiction & non-fiction titles.


Teen Programs

Teen Planning Group

Teens, ages 12-17, can earn up to six community service hours by participating in Planning Groups at the Library. Groups, dates and times are listed in the Events schedule.

Groups include:

  • Arts & Crafts – Help librarians plan arts and craft projects for kids of all ages (2 hours)
  • Technology – Help librarians plan tech programs for school age kids (2 hours)
  • EIR Book Club – Help librarians by reading a selected book, for the Excellence in Reading program, and bringing in 2 multiple choice questions. (2 hours)

Teen Book Club

Meets the 3rd Friday of every month, 4:00 p.m.
Young adult books are selected, read and discussed.

Winter Haven Gaming Club

First Saturday of every month, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Each month has a different theme. Includes 5-shirts, prizes and more.

Children’s Programs

Chit Chat & Interact

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11:00 a.m. (October through May)
Parents and caregivers share interactive play time with children in order to continue building early literacy skills taught in story time.

Lego Club

Every Tuesday, 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
We supply the Legos, you supply the imagination! Creations will stay on display during the following week. Ages 6-12

Little Sprouts Story Time

Tuesdays 10:30 a.m.
Wednesdays 9:30 a.m.

Children enjoy stories, songs, finger plays and puppet shows that develop early literacy skills and promote interaction between parents and children. Ages 5 and under. This program is held September through May each year.


Third Friday in the SEEDLab, 3:30 p.m.
A hands-on program for kids to learn, play and share the world of Minecraft. Ages 6-12.

Tinker Lab

The Tinker Lab is a place for kids to take apart and build, to ponder and explore, to tinker and invent; a place to apply STEAM skills through hands-on experiences.
