Vehicle Burglary Arrests

WINTER HAVEN – Four Winter Haven teens have been arrested and charged with Vehicle Burglary and Resisting Officers Without Violence after they were captured just after 4 a.m. this morning.

On 3-15-16 at approximately 3:45 a.m., a call was received that a resident in the Imperial Apartment complex, located at 333 Lake Howard Dr. NW saw four teens inside of vehicles in the parking area.

Winter Haven Police along with a Polk County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Deputy responded and immediately located 16 year-old Anquan Butler, but he immediately started to resist arrest. After numerous verbal attempts to comply, Butler was ultimately taken into custody utilizing the K-9. Seventeen year-old Tony Lee was also with Butler and was taken into custody at the same time.

The K-9 continued on a track to locate the other two, who were found shortly. Sixteen year-old Jase Govia was captured after he refused to comply with verbal commands and the K-9 was deployed. Seventeen year-old Dominique Cobb, who was also with Govia was also taken into custody.

Govia and Butler are both on probation with a curfew that prohibited them from being out after 7 p.m. They were each charged additionally with Violation of Probation.

“This is a great example of citizens calling immediately when something is suspicious,” said Chief Charlie Bird. “It’s a mantra we will continue to repeat; When You See Something, Say Something.”

  • Anquan Butler – DOB 2-9-00, 2636 Ave. C, SW, Winter Haven: Charged with: Resisting Officer Without Violence (M1) and Burglary to a Vehicle (F3)
  • Dominique Cobb – DOB 9-18-98, 1960 5th St., NE, Winter Haven: Charged with: Resisting Officer Without Violence (M1) and Burglary to a Vehicle (F3)
  • Jase Govia – DOB 2-20-00, 1409 31st St., NW, Winter Haven: Charged with: Resisting Officer Without Violence (M1) and Burglary to a Vehicle (F3)
  • Tony Lee – DOB 4-6-99, 610 Ave. T, NE, Winter Haven: Charged with: Resisting Officer Without Violence (M1) and Burglary to a Vehicle (F3)

During interviews with Detectives, each one admitted to participating in the burglaries either by checking vehicle doors or being the “look-out” for the others. They also admitted to running from officers.
