On 5-22-16 at approximately 2:30 a.m., Winter Haven Police were called to the Winter Haven Hospital in reference to a patient who was being treated for a gunshot wound. The patient, 23 year-old Levens Charlemond of Winter Haven was being prepared to be transferred to a Tampa area hospital. His condition remains serious, but non-life-threatening.

The circumstances of the incident played out like this:

There was a gathering in the 1000 block of 6th St NE in Winter Haven. A large group had assembled in the area when Charlemond was involved in an altercation. He was punched several times and as he fell into the passenger side of the vehicle he was standing beside, two shots rang out. One shattered the window of the door and the other struck Charlemond’s forearm as he attempted to cover his face from the flying glass. The bullet traveled completely through his forearm and struck him in the lower chin area, shattering his chin. Charlemond was immediately taken to the Winter Haven Hospital Emergency Room where he was transferred to St Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa.

The group involved in the fight fled the area. Through investigating the incident and interviewing multiple witnesses, Mardoche Pierrilus was identified as the shooter.
