Weekend Car Burglaries Affect 24 Victims in SW Winter Haven

Posted November 7th, 2017

During the overnight hours of 11-4 and 11-5, a total of 24 vehicles were burglarized in the South West section of the City. Eighteen of those occurred in the parking lot of Sailwinds Apartments, located at 235 24th Ct. The remainder of burglaries occurred in adjoining neighborhoods.

Of the 24 vehicles burglarized, only three were unsecured. The other 21 were locked and all had a window smashed out to gain entry. Witnesses who heard the noises were only able to describe two males wearing dark clothing and hoods over their heads.

Following the reported occurrences at Sailwinds Apartments, officers canvassed the area and located the additional vehicles and alerted the owners.

“Somebody out there has heard someone bragging about committing these crimes,” said Chief Charlie Bird. “It isn’t a matter of if – it’s a matter of when. We will catch them.”

Anyone with information regarding these vehicle burglaries is asked to call Heartland Crime Stoppers at 1-800-226-TIPS (8477). Callers are guaranteed to remain anonymous and could be eligible for a CASH reward of up to $3,000.
