The Streets' Division consists
of a diverse team of construction and maintenance personnel, dedicated to
providing quality and timely customer service. Our mission is to enhance Winter
Haven’s quality of life by providing a responsive, cost-effective Public Works'
service.
The division is responsible for streets, traffic and drainage systems. The
division also provides valuable support to other City departments and State
agencies. The Streets' Division is responsible for maintaining 170 miles of paved
City streets and alleys, 40 miles of sidewalk and 100 miles of curb system. The
division crews include: Sidewalk Repair, Roadway Maintenance, Street
Sweeping, Asphalt Pothole Repair and Tree Trimming. The traffic
operations' section coordinates maintenance of all traffic control and
informational signs including striping on City roads. It also installs and
maintains electronic traffic control devices on the City road system and for
the Florida Department of Transportation. Traffic operations also performs
studies and traffic counts necessary for the efficient operation
of our City roads. These activities are accomplished by the Signal Shop, Sign
Shop and Striping Crew.
The Signal Shop is responsible for 49 intersections, 402 traffic signals, 270
pedestrian signals and crosswalks, eight School Zones and 107 highway lighting
repairs within the City of Winter Haven. The Sign Shop is a computer-assisted,
sign fabrication facility. Fabricating new signs and repairing and/or replacing
old or damaged signs is a full time job. There are approximately 2,000 signs
installed on Winter Haven streets. |
