With water levels low because of a drought, Southwest Florida Water Management District Executive Director David L. Moore has ordered residents of Polk and 15 other counties to reduce lawn watering to one day a week.
Originally scheduled to expire July 31, the order has been extended and is ongoing.
The restrictions apply to the use of water from public and private water utilities as well as the use of all wells and surface water sources.
In addition to the one-day-a-week restriction, the times during which lawn-watering is allowed have tightened, too.
The emergency order bans watering between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Under the normal restrictions, watering isn't allowed between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Car washing is limited to once per week, though fundraising events are still allowed.
For complete details, or to ask questions about the restrictions, visit the district's Web site - www.WaterMatters.org - or call 1-800-848-0499 or 1-800-423-1476, ext. 4498, during normal business hours.
