The City of Winter Haven operates two wastewater
treatment plants. The
Wastewater Division inspects and monitors industries and businesses that
discharge wastewater into the City's sanitary sewer system to ensure those customers
comply with City codes and State and Federal regulations. Both wastewater treatment plants
produce reuse water for discharge. Specialty crews provide maintenance for plant facilities,
as well as other operational aspects. Their primary responsibilities are to
ensure compliance with limits for all wastewater parameters established under
Federal and State regulations relating to water quality discharge. On the
average, 5 million gallons of wastewater are treated each day at the
City's two plants.
Also this
division is responsible for constructing and maintaining sewer mains and lift stations. The division is responsible 24 hours a
day, seven days a week for the operation and maintenance of approximately 255
miles of sewer mains and more than 140 lift stations.
