This division operates 11 water plants. The
Fairfax Plant is the largest and is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a
week. The Water Plant Division is responsible for treating water that
meets and/or exceeds all State and Federal regulations and for pumping treated water
from the plants to the City's distribution system and customers. The water is
treated with chlorine and
fluoride. Additionally, this division maintains all water treatment facilities,
five elevated storage tanks, 10 ground storage tanks and
22 wells. Staff at the Fairfax plant also monitor all
wastewater pumping stations via a computer system and coordinates all customer calls after normal
working hours, weekends and holidays. On the average, the 11 plants treat
and distribute 9 million gallons of water each day.
Also this
division is responsible for the construction and maintenance of water mains,
fire hydrant repair and maintenance, and water meter installation and
maintenance. This division is responsible 24 hours a day, seven days a week for
the operation and maintenance of approximately 380 miles of water mains and
1,500 fire hydrants. |
