About the WHRCC:

Winter Haven Recreational and Cultural Center is located in Winter Haven's northeast community. The facility has a playground, two lighted youth baseball/softball fields, an indoor gymnasium, two outdoor basketball courts, a 25-meter pool, physical conditioning facilities (both free weights and machines), a meeting room, kitchen facility, a game room and a conference room. This facility offers numerous activities for youth and adults including after-school and summer youth programs, a community youth band program and rental opportunities.


The Winter Haven Recreational and Cultural Center pool is open in the summer from mid-May through Labor Day. Programs offered include open swimming from 1 - 5 p.m. seven days a week and swim lessons. The pool is ‘L’ shaped, measuring 25 yards x 25 meters.

Special Events:

Bench Press Competition

Individuals will compete against others within their weight classes.  The competition will feature various weight groups and awards/medals will be awarded to the overall strongest male and female finishers.   Participants are encouraged to pre-register by January 26.

Ages:  16 and Older

Date:   January 28

Time:  10 a.m.

Fee:    Free

 

Music in the Park

Come out and enjoy an evening of entertaining music that the whole family can enjoy.  Music renditions provided by Lakeland Motown group ‘Music Makers’.  Enjoy renditions by James Brown, The Temptations and more!

Date:   February 11 

Time:  4-5:30 p.m.   

Fee:    Free

Location:   Martin Luther King Jr. Park (199 Lake Silver Drive)

Spelling Bee

Awards/certificates will be given to first and second place participants in each age group. Groups are separated into Kindergarten, and grades 1st-2nd, 3rd-4th, 5th-6th and 7th-8th.  Participants are encouraged to pre-register by February 21.

Date:   February 23

Time:  6 p.m.

Youth Programs:

After School Program
After School homework assistance and recreational activities are provided. Transportation is available from Garner Elementary, Elbert Elementary, and Brigham Academy upon request.

THIS PROGRAM IS FULL

Ages: K-8th grade

Days: Every school day

Dates: August 15 - June 2 (2016/2017 school year)

Time: 3-5:30 p.m.

Fee: $20/month resident, $30/month non-resident

School’s Out Camp

No place to send your child when school is out?  Send them to the Winter Haven Recreational and Cultural Center!  The Rec provides supervised fun during public school holidays and teacher work days.  Activities include arts and crafts, games, sports and more.  You may register at any time during the school year.  Participants must bring their own lunch and snacks.  The children will have a blast and the price can’t be beat!

Ages:  K – 8   Program dates are subject to cancellation due to lack of participants.

Dates: Jan 2, 13, 16, Feb 20, Mar 20- 24, Apr 14, May 29

Time:  7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Fee:    $5/day Resident

            $10/day Non-resident

 

 

All Ages Programs:

Fitness Center and Weight Room

A wide variety of exercise machines, weight benches, squat racks and free-weights are available to the public for use.

Computer Lab

The computer lab is open to the public. Availability is based on programming.

Fee:    Free

Open Gym Basketball

Come play pick-up basketball.  Gym availability is based on programming and special events.

Fee: Free

Marching Wolverine Community Band Program

Marching Band Try outs will consist of flag and rifle drills, instrument selection, music fundamentals/techniques, and marching drills.

Location: WHRCC on Tugerson Field

Dates: August 1 - 11, 2016

Days: 4 - 6 p.m.

Ages: 11 years and older

Fee: Free

Earl Williams is the Director

Band Instructional classes, which are designed for beginner, intermediate and advanced skill levels, meet Thursdays starting August 25, 2016 from 4-5:30 p.m. at WHRCC. Limited selections of instruments are available for use at no charge and all ages are welcome.
