Airport User Group Safety Meetings
An Airport Safety Committee has been created with the objective of encouraging and maintaining a safe flying environment at the Winter Haven Regional Airport. Committee members are volunteer airport users who are very familiar with operations at KGIF and are willing to participate.
Accordingly, airport management has re-established the Airport Safety Committee. The purpose of this committee is to discuss current aeronautical or other safety issues, make recommendations for improvements, and promulgate to airport users as appropriate. Any items recommended by the Committee will be vetted by the formal Airport Advisory Committee and City of Winter Haven leadership for action, depending on budgetary and other considerations.
With oversight by the Committee, airport staff prepares and publishes a newsletter called Safety Brief, creates and posts flyers/postcards were created and posted, and has installed informational airfield signs. Further improvements to aeronautical safety at KGIF are being discussed and implemented.
Meetings are quarterly on or about the fourth Wednesday of the month in January, April, July, and October. Airport staff will facilitate and lead the meetings, create and send out the agendas, and create and publish the minutes on the airport website. Meetings are held at the Jack Brown Conference Room (Room #125) in the airport terminal building.
Airport staff and Committee members may follow up with visits to Flight Schools, pilot organizations, T-Hangar meetings, etc., to ensure that procedures are understood and promulgated. Staff will report on the Committee’s findings and recommended actions at Airport Advisory Committee meetings, as well as to City leadership.
