Meet Mike, a Utility Asset Manager in our Water Department. Here’s his Winter Haven story in his own words:
I am 59 years old and from a Utility type job having spent 38 years with the Armstrong Group of Companies based in Butler, Pennsylvania. Armstrong is a communication company and offered employees early retirement in 2018, having prepared for the move for years 2018 just became the right year. It took my wife and I (5) months to sell the house and call Winter Haven our new home. Why Winter Haven you may ask? Winter Haven gives us an at home feeling, It has small town appeal but is a short drive to Orlando or Tampa.
Having a few months off I realized there was still plenty of gas left in the tank. I enjoyed the project coordinator work in communication and decided to apply for a Job with the City of Winter Haven Utilities Division. During my interview I appreciated the honesty about the challenges of the job I had applied for. it was a very good interview that made me want the position even more.
Currently I am the Utility Asset Coordinator. In this position I have first contact with our customers and direct the appropriate crew to resolve the issue. We have outstanding Water and Wastewater maintenance crews. These frontline employees are great co-workers and truly are customer oriented.
While I may only have a few months experience at this job I have over 41 years of work in general experience. The benefits or working for the City of Winter Haven are Generous:
- Reliable good pay and Jobs that are not going away.
- You can plan to retire from the City of Winter Haven.
- Room for advancement.
- Ongoing plant improvements.
- Nothing is mundane. Every Commercial or Residential account is unique.
Thank you for sharing, Mike!
