Downtown Parklet and Parking Options as Downtown Reopens

Posted May 5th, 2020

As the Winter Haven community transitions through the difficulties brought about by Covid-19, Main Street Winter Haven and the City of Winter Haven have worked together with contributions from the Greater Winter Haven Chamber of Commerce to offer innovative opportunities for downtown visitors interested in shopping, eating or picking up food.

With certain businesses and restaurants now open under the Governor’s “Safe, Smart, Step-by-Step” plan, limited access is available due to physical distancing. Because of this, more options have been created to accommodate the needs of the downtown customer by transforming the use of parking spaces.

While street-side parking remains available, certain parking spaces are now designated for Curb Service Pick-up.  Other spaces are repurposed as a “Parklet” for open air outdoor café dining service adjacent to participating restaurants. These transformed spaces are clearly identified and are positioned near appropriate businesses.  This new and innovative approach to experience Downtown Winter Haven will continue until May 31.

Citizens can now dine in the open air in one of the temporary Parklets.

Citizens are asked to enjoy the downtown while following the CDC guidelines of social distancing by at least 6-feet and remaining in groups less than ten. Face-coverings are recommended when appropriate. As always, the Parking Garage is free of charge and easily accessible from Avenue A NW.  Join downtown businesses as they welcome customers back to Florida’s Great Place! (Downtown Winter Haven was designated Florida’s Great Place by the American Planning Association, Florida Chapter)
