Modification of Traffic Signalization

Posted March 1st, 2019

The traffic signalization at the intersection of 3rd Street, Ave B SW and Magnolia Ave, a relic of former highway 17, will be modified to reflect red flashing notification on all approaches converting the intersection to a four-way stop. A recent traffic study revealed the intersection no longer warrants a traffic signal.  Modifying the signalization at this intersection provides for enhanced traffic and pedestrian movements in the downtown area. The signals will be removed in accordance with the procedures outlined in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) along the following timeline.

  • Week of March 4, 2019 – The signals will be switched to flashing red for all approaches for a minimum of 90 days, throughout which periodic observation during the AM and PM peak traffic times will be conducted.
  • Week  of  June  3,  2019  –  Signal  heads  will  be  removed  and  a  plan  for removing the signal spans and further improving pedestrian movements in the corridor will be presented.
