The City values water so much, the entire organization has adopted the One Water Plan for Winter Haven. This means all City government departments, private industry, and residents are working alongside the water utility to shift the way we think about and care for water with watercentric community planning for a resilient future.
We are seeking a knowledgeable and dependable Chief Operator who shares our passion for the work. This new leader will help shepherd the team through future plans including introducing direct potable reuse, aquifer storage and recovery, and the construction of a new Wastewater Treatment Plant. In short, we are looking for a leader to help us better reclaim water by modernizing wastewater reclamation technology.
The Chief Operator should be able to motivate a team, facilitate professional development for operators, and manage compliance processes including DEP reporting. They should be able to interpret plans, drawings, wiring diagrams, and specifications as well as perform electrical repairs on equipment and machinery. They will conduct chemical analysis, maintain plant operation records, and operate City vehicles. This position will work in confined spaces and hazardous areas. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of wastewater treatment plant operations, principles, practices, equipment, and machinery.
- Working knowledge of electrical controls and telemetry equipment.
- Some knowledge of certification in confined space access and communicable disease control.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; plan, organize, supervise, and evaluate the work of wastewater plant operators and maintenance personnel working on shifts; prepare and maintain required records and reports; and work with computers and various software packages including SCADA systems.
Minimum Education & Experience:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Five (5) years of experience in the operation of wastewater treatment facilities; supervisory experience preferred.
- Possession of a Florida Department of Environment Protection Class “B” Wastewater Certificate. Class “A” Preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience that is determined to be directly related to the foregoing specific requirements may be substituted.
Special Requirements:
- Must have a valid State of Florida drivers’ license and a good driving record as determined by the City of Winter Haven.
- Absence of non-prescribed controlled substances in the applicant’s system as verified by a laboratory approved by the City of Winter Haven.
