Lecture Series: Florida Water Stories

Thursday, February 22 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

The Winter Haven Public Library presents the 2017-18 Lecture Series featuring: Florida Water Stories!

Fourth lecture of the series: Ditch of Dreams: the Cross Florida Barge Canal, presented by Dr. Steve Noll, author, master lecturer at the University of Florida, and Florida Humanities Coucil Speaker.  Based on the award-winning book, this presentation examines the long and convoluted history of the attempt to cross the Florida peninsula by cutting a waterway from the Atlantic to the Gulf of Mexico.  It focuses on the environmental movement organized by Marjorie Harris Carr, which eventually stopped the canal before it was completed.

Books will be available for purchase at the event for $20 cash or check.

Registration for this lecture opens January 29.  See the full event schedule.
