Battalion Chief Carbone Receives State Honor

Posted January 29th, 2020

On behalf of Public Safety Director Charlie Bird and Deputy Fire Chief David Knowles, congratulations to Battalion Chief Joe Carbone on receiving the State Paramedic of the Year at a ceremony held in Daytona Beach. A group of members attended the ceremony at the conference.

In October, 2019, Batt Chief Carbone responded to a gunshot victim with severe trauma to the face. The most severe wound was located under the lower jaw. Carbone performed an emergency surgical cricothyrotomy (incision to open an airway) to secure the patient’s airway. This action and heroic measure resulted in saving the life of the patient.
