Lk Howard Garage Fire Extinguished Before Damage To Home

Posted July 19th, 2019

A structure fire damages garage, but could have been much worse if not for an off-duty firefighter who saw the fire and stopped to help. There were no injuries and the family who lives on the property was not displaced.

Today (7-19-19) at approximately 12:17 p.m., an off-duty Auburndale firefighter was driving along Lake Howard Drive when he saw smoke coming from a garage at 109 Lake Howard Dr. NW in Winter Haven. The firefighter immediately called 9-1-1, started banging on the door of the home and then then grabbed a garden hose to help keep the fire from spreading.

Members from the Winter Haven Fire Department arrived on scene and immediately started tackling the fire and preserving the home, which was only separated by a breezeway between the structures.

The garage received extensive damage, but the quick response helped mitigate damage to the home. Only minor exterior smoke damage occurred to the breezeway and a wall on the exterior of the home.
