Winter Haven Public Safety Youth Leadership Council

The Winter Haven Public Safety Youth Council application process is now open. The Leadership Council will consist of approximately 12 members, ages 14 – 21, who will serve voluntarily and meet every-other week with Public Safety members for a total of four sessions.  The sessions are scheduled for June 16, June 23, July 7 and July 14. Each session will be held from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. with lunch being provided for the members. Council members will receive a Youth Council shirt along with a graduation ceremony following the four sessions.

Members of the Youth Council will experience hands-on activities over the course of the four weeks while gaining a better understanding of the field of Public Safety.  Council members will participate in tours at the Polk County Emergency Communication Center, Central County Jail, the Courthouse, The Kenneth C. Thompson Public Safety Institute at Polk State College and also experience scenario-based activities with members of the Winter Haven Police and Fire Departments.

Those interested in serving on the Winter Haven Public Safety Youth Leadership Council can request an application by calling 863-291-6178. Applications can also be obtained by clicking here.  The applicant will be screened through their school principal and the applicant must not have a criminal history. Applications must be submitted no later than May 31, 2022 to be considered for the upcoming council that will begin on Thursday, June 16, 2022. A complete schedule of activities will be sent when the accepted Youth Council members are notified.
