Household Hazardous Waste
Hazardous Household Wastes (HHW) are various products that contain ingredients which are flammable, corrosive, combustible, toxic and/or reactive. These items should never be tossed in the trash or recycle:
- Cleaning Supplies
- Pool Chemicals
- Fluorescent bulbs & compact fluorescent bulbs
- Pesticides, herbicides, & fertilizer
- paint, thinners, & solvents
- gasoline, diesel, gas cylinders etc.
- Batteries (household, auto, marine)
- Used motor oil, hydraulic oil, etc.
- Cooking Oils
E-Wastes (electronic wastes) are computers, monitors, printers, tv’s. VHS, DVD, & BluRay players, cell phones, etc. Like HHW, these items should never be discarded for curb-side pick-up. These items and those similar, can be collected at the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day or dropped off at the Household Hazardous Collection Facility.
Instead of tossing these HHW items in your containers for curbside pick-up, these items, and others, may be disposed of at the Polk County Household Hazardous Waste Day (first Saturday in December) for free or contact the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility at 863-284-4319.
