Solid Waste & Recycling

Hazardous & E-Waste

Household Hazardous Waste

Hazardous Household Wastes (HHW) are various products that contain ingredients that are flammable, corrosive, combustible, toxic, and/or reactive.

HHW items can be disposed of at Polk County’s Household Hazardous Collection Facility at no additional fee.

These items should never be tossed in the trash or recycled:

  • Cleaning Supplies
  • Pool Chemicals
  • Fluorescent bulbs & compact fluorescent bulbs
  • Pesticides, herbicides, & fertilizer
  • paint, thinners, & solvents
  • gasoline, diesel, gas cylinders, etc.
  • Batteries (household, auto, marine)
  • Used motor oil, hydraulic oil, etc.
  • Cooking Oils

E-Wastes

E-Wastes (electronic waste) are computers, monitors, printers, TVs, VHS, DVD, & BluRay players, cell phones, etc.  Like HHW, these items should never be discarded for curbside pick-up.  These items and those similar can be discarded at the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day or dropped off at Polk County’s Household Hazardous Collection Facility.

Instead of throwing away your HHW items in your containers for curbside pick-up, these items, and others, may be disposed of at the Polk County Household Hazardous Waste Day (first Saturday in December) for free or contact  Polk County’s Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility at 863-284-4319.
