Distance Learning Resources

Explore the Library’s wide array of resources to support Winter Haven’s parents and educators, whether they’re teaching online, looking for materials to support their curriculum, or connecting students with engaging learning aids.

Florida Electronic Library

Search for full-text magazine articles, books, newspapers and more. Multiple databases are available within the following categories: All Resources, K-12, Health, Career and Job, Small Business, Newspapers & Magazines, eBooks and Florida Resources and many more. Library card required.

Salem Online

Search ebooks on topics related to: biographies, careers, health, history, literature, politics, science, current topics and more. With your library card, you can access full-text articles from the books online (also provides complete citations), or come into the Winter Haven Public Library for the actual books (cannot be checked out).

Ask A Librarian

Provides virtual reference services through live chat and text messaging from 10 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Email is available 24/7 and is answered by your local library.

Unlimited access to over 6,000 courses. Courses are video based, self-paced and available 24/7. Certificates are provided upon completion each course. Available to Winter Haven Public Library cardholders. To get started click the link and select ‘Create a profile.’

Rocket Languages

Learn to speak another language or enhance your current language skills. Languages include: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Hindi, Ingles, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Sign Language, Spanish and Eigo. Library card required.

Excellence in Reading

Excellence in Reading has been a cornerstone of the Winter Haven Library’s Youth Services Department since 1982. Children read specially chosen Excellence in Reading books, test on the Library’s dedicated computers and earn incentives and prizes along the way. The Excellence in Reading program is for ages 5-17.

Overdrive

With your library card, you can access the latest ebooks & audiobooks using your preferred device – all for free! Available to all Polk County Library cardholders, with additional materials available to Winter Haven cardholders.

Kanopy

Kanopy provides thoughtful entertainment through an on-demand streaming video platform that offers films and documentaries, as well as Kanopy Kids, which is exclusively children’s programming. Available on your computer or through an app, Kanopy is free with your library card.
