What is the Writers’ Room?
- The Writers’ Room offers a quiet and convenient place for Writers to work with ready access to library collections and staff for research support.
- The Writers’ Room has access to gigabit Wi-Fi, power outlets and desks
Who can use the Writers’ Room?
- Writers, either published or unpublished, who have an approved status to use the room.
How do I apply?
- Fill out the application at the bottom of this page.
- The selection of Writers for admission to the Writers’ Room is the responsibility of employees of the City of Winter Haven Public Library. Individual applications are accepted throughout the year and reviewed on a regular basis.
- If accepted, applicants will be provided with more information about the facility and guidelines for use.
When is the Writers’ Room available?
- The Writers’ Room is available during normal business hours of the Winter Haven Public Library. Please note that the Writers’ Room will close 15 minutes before the library closes.
- The room is not available during Holidays or other official closings of the library.
Writers’ Room Guidelines
- The use of the Writers’ Room is granted for one year. Writers may resubmit for an additional year.
- Only Writers who have gone through the application process are allowed in the room
- Writers should respect the quiet atmosphere of the Writers’ Room and refrain from unsolicited conversation.
- The Winter Haven Library Behavior Policy must be followed when using the room or the writer may be asked to leave and their Writers’ Room privileges may be canceled.
- All equipment and personal items should be removed when leaving the room. The library is not responsible for damaged, lost or stolen items.
- Library materials may be used in the room, but all library materials should be either checked out or given back to the front desk when leaving the room.
- Library staff will post a courtesy calendar for Writers to self-schedule times they will be using the room
- Food and drink are allowed in the room, but all trash or food must be removed from room when leaving.
- The Writers’ Room provides a relatively quiet space in which to work, however, the library cannot guarantee complete silence/isolation.
