With more than 7,000 learning activities and more than 650 lessons, ABCmouse.com is the most comprehensive early learning site on earth. Their curriculum is designed by teachers and early childhood learning experts to align with what your child will learn in school.

This service is only available on the children’s computers in the Children’s Department.

Excellence in Reading

Excellence in Reading has been a cornerstone of the Winter Haven Library’s Youth Services Department since 1982. Children read specially chosen Excellence in Reading books, take tests and earn incentives and prizes along the way. The Excellence in Reading program is for ages 5-17.

Searching for books with a corresponding Accelerated Reader quiz is easy with Accelerated Reader BookFinder®. Students, teachers, parents, and librarians can search in English or Spanish using criteria such as interest level, title, author, fiction/nonfiction, subject, award-winners, state lists, and more.

Lexile Measure

The Lexile measure represents a student’s level on a developmental scale of reading ability. It can be used to identify material at the appropriate difficulty level for the student regardless of the student’s grade level. This website can determine the students Lexile measure, find books by Lexile level, as well as find the Lexile level for specific books.

Summer Youth Programs

A wide array of programs are available to kids and adults this summer, beginning in June and continuing through July every year. Exact starting and ending dates will be announced a few weeks prior to the start.

Sunshine State Readers

The Sunshine State Young Readers Award (SSYRA) Program is a statewide reading motivational program for students in grades 3 through 8, sponsored by the Florida Department of Education and Florida Association for Media in Education. The purpose is to encourage students to read independently for pleasure and to read books that are on, above, and below their reading level.
