Senior Adult Center

The Winter Haven Senior Adult Center plays host to a wide variety of recreational programs and activities for those 50 and older. Musical entertainment, holiday parties, special interest speakers, classes, activities, social groups and shuffleboard are only a small sampling of opportunities. The facility also has 24 shuffleboard courts and a large auditorium-style hall available for rentals.

Fitness Programs

Wellness with Deanna – Starting September 7th, 2021

A 60-minute low-impact total body workout that includes aerobic, strengthening, balance, and flexibility modalities. It provides an intense workout that is easily modified for beginners.

  • Days: Tuesdays
  • Time: 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.
  • Fee: $1 Resident / $2 Non-resident
  • Registration is required.

Zumba For Seniors – Coming Soon

A total body workout that includes aerobic, strengthening, balance, and flexibility modalities.

  • Day: Mondays
  • Time: 10:45 – 11:45 a.m.
  • Fee: Free

Low-Impact Exercise Class

This low-impact aerobic exercise class uses Richard Simmon’s Silver Fox videotape, played on a large-screen television. This is an excellent workout for all fitness levels.

  • Days: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
  • Time: 9:30 – 10:15 a.m.
  • Fee: Free
  • Registration is required.

Chair Yoga

Chair yoga is designed for seniors and focuses on flexibility, strength, stress reduction, and relaxation. Enjoy the benefits of yoga sitting in a chair rather than getting up and down from the floor.

  • Days: Wednesdays and Fridays
  • Time: 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
  • Fee: Free
  • Registration is required.

Tai Chi

Experience the gentle flowing movements of Tai Chi, and treat your whole body to a gentle and relaxing workout.

  • Day: Wednesdays
  • Time: 1:30 p.m.
  • Fee: $4 Resident / $5 Non-resident

Music and Art Programs

Mixed Media Painting

Learn to paint using oils, pastels, and watercolors. Painters bring their own materials and work on their own projects. Create your own masterpiece!

  • Days: Mondays
  • Time: 12:30 p.m.
  • Fee: $10 Resident / $11 Non-resident
  • Registration is required.

Quilting Bee

Individuals bring their own sewing machines and work on their projects. An experienced instructor assists if needed.

  • Time: 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
  • Fee: Free

Dance Programs

Intermediate Line Dance Classes

Learn line dances to country and pop songs. Participants often perform at local nursing homes and health expos. No partner required.

  • Day: Thursdays
  • Time: 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.
  • Fee: $4 Resident / $5 Non-resident
  • Registration is required.

Cards and Games Programs

Card Social – Coming Soon

The card social provides a fun afternoon for different card games. A partner is not necessary to participate. Free to play.

  • Bridge: Monday 1:00 p.m.
  • Pinochle: Wednesday and Thursday 12:00 p.m.
  • Hand and Foot: Wednesday 12:00 p.m.
  • Mahjongg: Thursday 12:00 p.m.
  • Domino: Friday 12:00 p.m.

Bingo

Participants will play for grocery items.

  • Time: 10:45 – 11:30 a.m.
  • Fee: $0.25 per card

Chess Club – Coming Soon

The chess club welcomes players of all levels and those interested in learning the game or improving their skills. Members bring their own boards.

  • Days: Tuesday (10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.), Wednesday (1:30 p.m.- 3:30 p.m.), and Friday (1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.)

Miscellaneous Programs

AARP Defensive Driving Course – Looking For Instructor

This class is designed to teach the current rules of the road and defensive driving techniques. Currently offered virtually. Participants may be eligible for an insurance discount after course completion. Participants must attend both days for course completion. Register today at AARP.org/drive!

  • Days: Last Monday and Tuesday of every month
  • Time: 12:00 – 3:00 p.m.
  • Fee: $15 AARP Members, $20 Non-AARP members
  • Registration is required.

Winter Haven Shuffleboard Club

The shuffleboard club holds weekly shuffleboard games. This club also participates in state and district tournaments, turkey shoots, and special events.

  • Days: Wednesday and Friday
  • Times: 1:00 p.m.
  • Fee: $20 annually to join the club

Friends who Feast – Coming Soon

Friends who Feast is a social group that dines at various restaurants throughout the Winter Haven area. Transportation is provided. Seating is limited, so call early to reserve your spot, or you can meet us there. A transportation fee might be added pending location.

  • Dates:  Starting soon                                                        
  • Time: Bus leaves the Center at 10:45 a.m.
  • Fee: Participants pay for their own meals.

Fellowship Dining (served by MidFlorida Community Services)

Starting on July 19th, 2021, hot meals will be served each weekday to persons 60 years of age or older. Participants must fill out the proper paperwork and commit to eating at least 2 – 5 meals a week. Meals are provided and served by MidFlorida Community Services.
