New Smartphone App Launches To Help Keep Residents Informed
Winter Haven Police Launch New Smartphone App, a new mobile app designed to give citizens better access to the Police Department’s resources.
The app, which is free and available for Apple or Android, has many features and information that reflect the department’s website. With an estimated 78% of the population using smartphones, a vast majority use the phone as their primary information source. This app allows more access at their fingertips.
“We are excited to unveil this way of connecting and communicating with our citizens and visitors in order to have updated information readily accessible,” said Public Safety Director Charlie Bird.
Push notifications are a feature of the app that many people will find informative. When there is a traffic alert, or an immediate public safety notification that the public needs to be made aware of, the user will be alerted to the information immediately. There are also news stories that are posted and even the prior day Calls for Service that can be viewed.
Submit A Tip is a way for citizens to anonymously (or include contact information) send immediate information regarding something they encounter that needs to be reported. This in no way is to be utilized in an emergency or to replace a call to 9-1-1 should there be a crime in progress. However, if a citizen observes something suspicious or out of the ordinary where there is no immediate danger, sending this through the Submit A Tip can have an officer respond to the area to investigate. There is also a feature to include photos as well.
Other features include Weather Alerts, department information, Sexual Offender Information, Community Services and even a way to give us feedback on how we are doing.
The app is available to download in the iOS App Store for Apple users or in the Google Play Store for Android users by searching “Winter Haven Police.”
