Update: Wastewater Spill at Lake Otis
Update: The samples from Lake Otis are back to normal and the temporary health hazard signs on site have been removed.
On January 5, 2021, a contractor damaged a force main causing a sewer spill of approximately 28,000 gallons. Fortunately, City staff were able to capture 25,000 gallons of the spill using a vac truck. Approximately 15,000 gallons entered a storm drain that discharges into Lake Otis near the boat ramp. City staff notified the Florida Department of Health of the incident and posted a temporary health hazard sign at the boat ramp. Staff collected lake samples and sent them to an environmental lab for analysis. Staff will continue to collect lake samples and test daily until tests come back normal for lake water quality. Once the lake quality samples demonstrate the lake is back to normal, the temporary health hazard sign will be removed, and we will update the spill information on this website.
