Donzell Floyd was born on January 31, 1949 in Winter Haven, FL. Donzell was reared in a single parent household by his beloved mother, Beatrice. Donzell loved his Florence Villa community. It was the love and guidance that he received growing up in Florence Villa that molded him into the servant leader he became to be. Donzell attended elementary, middle, and high school in Florence Villa. While attending Jewett High School, Donzell played football, basketball, and was active in student government. Donzell was the first person to attend Boys State through Post 201 American Legion Department of Florida in 1966. Donzell graduated from Jewett High School in 1966.
Anyone who knew Donzell knew how much he loved Jewett High School. Donzell would talk for hours about the friends, teachers, and memories he made while there. His love for Ms. Mary B. Jewett and Jewett High would later lead him to become the 1st chairman of the Jewett High School Alumni Association. Being the 1st chairman also earned him the nickname DCHIEF. Under his leadership the Jewett Alumni Association awarded countless scholarships to deserving high school students.
After leaving Jewett High, Donzell attended and graduated from Bethune Cookman College and Xavier University in New Orleans, LA. Donzell was a registered pharmacist for almost 40 years. Donzell was a life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., the NAACP, and a lifelong member of First Missionary Baptist Church, where Donzell was the first Scholarship Steering Committee Chair Person and also a valuable member of the scholarship awards program.
Donzell truly lived a life of service. Donzell found joy in helping students in his community achieve their academic dreams. Over the years Donzell assisted hundreds of students with their academic endeavors. He also mentored pharmacy students by providing them with advice, guidance, and by sharing his knowledge of the pharmacy profession. Donzell has received many accolades over the years and has served on numerous committees. Donzell is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 42 years Carolyn, his daughter Kardawnzelle (Najee) of Ansbach, Germany, and his son Donzell T. (Lauren) of Atlanta, GA. He also leaves to cherish his memories four grandchildren, Yasmine, Layla, Donovan & Suni.
